Interview with Elda M. Lopez
What’s the story behind your book?
My book, THE (IN)FIDELITY FACTOR: Points to Ponder Before You Cheat was written due to the fact, I simply became annoyed with all the infidelities that were playing out in the public eye. One high profile person after another was falling by the wayside with chaos trailing right behind! I knew something had to be done to address this issue – before the fall. People cheat, move on, and possibly repeat the process without giving much thought to the turmoil left in the aftermath. Self-gratification and a quick fix are emotional knee jerk reactions that don’t serve a constructive purpose. This, in turn, can create a snowball effect.
Emotional and financial anxiety can possibly play out in a way that affects society at large and – we’re all society at large! Children who have been affected may act out and become disruptive adults. Adults may find themselves needing mental health counseling, which is a great way to deal with complex issues, but how much better would it have been to deal with matters, beforehand, in a proactive manner? Financial demise can be a by-product, which then puts a strain on our economic system: bankruptcy, government aid, etc. There are many trickle-down disturbances that stem from the act of infidelity which most don’t realize.
I’ve also been on the receiving end of cheating, and, I’ve been the “other” woman. So, yes, I’ve been there and done that. Not a good situation in either circumstance. My personal situation didn’t prompt me to write this book, but it certainly gave me the experience to speak from a place of authenticity. My true objective is to bring more awareness and education while stressing the importance of personal accountability within relationships. And, hopefully, change up a law or two while I’m at it!
